Cancelled Sitcoms

Scout Durwood and Jessica Rothe in Mary + Jane

I have a fascination with cancelled or otherwise short lived sitcoms. I'm not entirely sure why. Maybe because there are hidden gems to be found, maybe because of future promise cut short, maybe because they just have a "vibe" that I like. The simple comfort of a likeable cast in mediocre predictability.

I'm going to try and post about the ones I watch from now on (including rewatches of a few favourites) in an attempt to organise my thoughts and vaguely catalogue them. I created a spreadsheet with over 200 shows on it as a place to get started. I have a slightly flexible definition of sitcom, a term no one can seem to agree on anyway (especially when it comes to 21st century shows).

Some favourites of mine, off the top of my head, in no particular order:

  • Samantha Who? (2007)
  • I'm Sorry (2017)
  • Jennifer Falls (2014)
  • Single Drunk Female (2022)
  • Wonderfalls (2004)
  • Grandfathered (2015)
  • Mary + Jane (2016)
  • Don't Trust the Bitch in Apartment 23 (2012)
  • Powerless (2017)
